The 29-year-old explained on Reddit that their "close friend" from college is expecting their first child. The man notes that they've 'stayed friends over the years' and are "definitely still in touch and supportive," but not 'super tight."
'She messaged me last week saying they'd picked out a name for the baby — my name. I was a bit taken aback," the poster writes. "She said I'd always been a 'constant' and someone she admired for being grounded. It was meant as a compliment and a gesture."
However, the man said 'it made [him] weirdly uncomfortable.'
'The idea of a kid being named after me — especially when we're not that close anymore — just felt a bit strange,' he shares. 'I told her I was flattered but that I didn't really feel comfortable with it. She seemed hurt and replied with something like 'it's not about you, it's for my son.' '
Now, the man feels like he 'made a big deal out of something that was meant kindly.' However, at the same time, he notes that it 'feels weird having no say in someone using your name that way.'

Most people in the comments, however, felt like no one was in the wrong, explaining that he has a right to feel uneasy about it, but also has no ownership of the name.
'Maybe she just likes the name and thought she'd let you know because many people would enjoy that. You don't have to give your name up or anything,' one person commented, to which the poster replied, 'Yeah maybe you're right.'
Another person suggested he "call her back" and let her know that he is "very flattered" that she likes his name.
"Smooth it out with some love," they wrote. "She obviously thinks you're special. Embrace it.'
Several other people also highlighted that there are likely thousands, if not millions, of people with the same name.
"The harsh truth here is that she's right. This isn't about you and this baby's name is entirely up to the parents,' a third commenter wrote.
